What it does
sockperf benchmarks network socket performance with throughput, ping-pong and latency-under-load tests and detailed latency reporting.
Choose the load model before comparing latency. sockperf’s ping-pong mode exchanges one outstanding message between client and server; its documentation calls that an artificial workload. Under-load mode sends messages on schedule without waiting for the previous reply, with message rate and reply frequency controlling load and sampling. The under-load latency sample is half the measured round-trip time. Percentiles, histograms and full transmit/receive logs help investigate spikes, while each run still describes its configured endpoints and socket conditions. The README lists Unix build tools and a C++11 compiler; TLS is an optional build requiring OpenSSL 3.0 or later. Timing resolution is not a guarantee of measurement accuracy.
