What it does
q is a DNS client supporting UDP, TCP, DoT, DoH, DoQ and ODoH, with raw, JSON and YAML output options.
Specify the resolver, name and record types when comparing DNS answers through different transports. q supports raw output, JSON and YAML, plus controls for query flags and response sections. Server selection is explicit: an @server argument takes precedence over Q_DEFAULT_SERVER, then /etc/resolv.conf. Leaving record types unspecified requests several types rather than only A. The DNSSEC OK flag requests DNSSEC data; do not equate that switch with independent local validation. The tool also exposes an option to skip TLS certificate verification, so retain the transport and trust settings with any comparison.
