What it does
NRK Core Icons distributes interface artwork, expressive icons and NRK logos. It documents application integration and major-version name migration.
NRK Core Icons separates ordinary artwork, supporting code and NRK logos. Icon images use CC BY 4.0 and require credit; code uses MIT. All use of NRK trademark assets requires prior specific permission and compliance with its design guidance. Downloading the same package does not give those categories identical rights.
Version 19 renamed every icon and logo. Deprecated aliases remain in that version but are scheduled for removal in the next major release. A codemod can preview and apply name updates, while removed icons, require calls and the removed JSX imports need manual attention.
Android developers investigating rendering problems should test the rebuilt library output, because manual SVG import uses a different conversion path and can conceal a packaged-output problem. The ordinary icons and code are available without a licence fee under their respective open terms; the NRK logos remain separately permission-controlled.
Strengths
- The repository clearly separates code, icon and trademark permissions.
- Migration tooling accompanies the large naming change.
Watch out for
- NRK logos require prior specific permission.
- Some v19 migration cases need manual changes rather than an automatic rename.
Best for
- NRK-aligned interfaces
- Teams maintaining an existing Core Icons integration
