What it does
Av1an is a command-line encoding framework that runs encoder processes in parallel. It includes target-quality mode, metric plotting, VapourSynth input, and resumable work.
Specify input/output files or a VapourSynth script, with video/audio parameters and optional metric-guided target quality. Av1an coordinates parallel encoding and cancel/resume; it needs FFmpeg, VapourSynth and an external encoder executable. Installing only libvpx or an SVT-AV1 library is insufficient. Corresponding metric tools enable VMAF and other quality modes. Windows, Linux and macOS are supported. Retain job state for interrupted work and keep the codec/encoder build with the configuration.
Strengths
- Combines parallel processing with quality targeting and resumable jobs.
Watch out for
- Requires at least one supported external encoder.
Best for
- Experienced users coordinating long or scene-based video encodes
