What it does

Gonic implements a music-streaming server compatible with the Subsonic client ecosystem.

Point Gonic at music files on your server, set its database and cache folders, then scan the library through web administration. A Subsonic-compatible client supplies the listening interface. Multiple users can keep separate playlists and preferences.

Install FFmpeg if you need on-the-fly transcoding, and change the initial administrator password before opening access. The server streams your library; it does not supply a music catalogue.

Strengths

  • Separate user preferences and playlists
  • Configurable transcoding cache

Best for

  • Users choosing a lightweight server for existing music clients
