What it does
Pickr is a JavaScript colour-picker library with themes, swatches, opacity controls and configurable colour formats. It does not require jQuery. Its events distinguish changing, saving, cancelling and selecting colours. Pickr's MIT licence permits use and modification of its open-source code.
Choose a theme and enable the controls the application needs: preview, hue, opacity, a text field and format or action buttons. The change event reports a live selection; save reports the commit action. Clearing also fires save with a null colour, so a form must handle that case. Cancel returns to the previous colour.
Classic, Monolith and Nano offer different layouts. Nano uses CSS Grid. From version 1.10.0, the package no longer provides an ES5 build, so support for older browsers requires the application’s build process to translate the dependency.
The feature set is frozen. Important bug or security updates may still occur, but the maintainer says new features are highly unlikely.
Strengths
- Live changes and committed values have separate events.
- Visible formats and action buttons can be selected individually.
Watch out for
- The feature set is frozen.
- There is no ES5 build from version 1.10.0 onward.
Best for
- Applications needing an existing configurable JavaScript colour widget.
