What it does
abcMIDI is a command-line suite for ABC music notation. It includes ABC-to-MIDI and MIDI-to-ABC conversion, notation transformations, and a PostScript rendering route.
Use abc2midi to turn ABC notation into MIDI, midi2abc for the reverse direction and abc2abc to transpose notation. The current maintainer's suite also includes mftext for MIDI inspection and midicopy for copying selected MIDI material into another file. MIDI-to-ABC can need notation cleanup rather than yielding an immediately readable score. Yaps remains a historical PostScript component, but the maintainer says it has been superseded by separate notation renderers. The maintained repository continues the James Allwright/Seymour Shlien lineage; the older ABC project pages preserve earlier releases.
Strengths
