What it does

StaxRip is a Windows video and audio encoding interface that controls console tools and uses AviSynth+ or VapourSynth for processing. Projects can include custom events and settings.

A repeatable encoding job can combine a filter chain, encoder settings, and post-processing events in one project. StaxRip's assistant guides setup, but the project documentation explicitly expects users to understand the result they want. It is therefore useful for controlled encoding workflows where the processing chain matters, rather than simply choosing an output extension.

StaxRip is portable: extract a release and select where its settings will live. The README warns against reusing existing jobs across incompatible versions because encoder parameters can change. Bundled tools may also need Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes. Keep the project, tool versions and settings together when a conversion needs to be repeated later; copying only the job name does not preserve that environment.

Strengths

  • Combines encoding tools, scripted processing, and project events.

Watch out for

  • Requires understanding the processing and encoder setup.

Best for

  • Experienced Windows users building repeatable video encodes
