What it does
SVGEdit is an MIT-licensed SVG drawing editor for modern browsers. The project links hosted builds and provides instructions for running or embedding your own copy. Its editing canvas can also be used separately in a custom application.
Choose a hosted or local editor
The repository links both a development build and the latest published package. Older releases remain available for older browsers and features omitted from the current version.
Self-hosting requires copying the repository, installing dependencies, building the canvas package and starting a local server. A separate build creates files for your web server.
For embedding, the editor needs a container with explicit dimensions. Configuration controls its extensions, and the project includes a React extension example. Supported browsers are recent Chrome, Firefox and Safari; older browsers may require an older release.
Strengths
- Hosted builds avoid maintaining a local installation
- The canvas can be integrated into another application
Watch out for
- Self-hosting requires dependency installation and a build
- Old and current releases have different feature coverage
Best for
- Browser SVG editing
- Developers embedding a configurable drawing canvas
