What it does
Font-GIS is an icon set for GIS applications and web mapping tools. It supplies an icon font, individual SVGs and an SVG sprite.
Font-GIS gives mapping and spatial-analysis controls their own icon vocabulary. Install font-gis, then load its stylesheet and use an fg- class such as fg-poi. Individual SVG files and the combined dist/font-gis.svg sprite provide alternatives to the font.
The sprite route references a named symbol inside an SVG element. A custom addition can start from the supplied template, with a metadata entry for its theme and search tags. That lets a mapping interface extend the existing family rather than introduce an unrelated symbol style.
The project is free under Apache 2.0 and also offers component-specific alternatives: OFL for the font, CC BY 4.0 for SVGs and MIT for code. Preserve the embedded notices. Public local package use requires no Font-GIS account, and branded symbols should only identify the corresponding company, product or service.
Strengths
- The subject matter focuses on GIS and spatial analysis.
- Font and SVG sprite routes support different mapping interfaces.
Watch out for
- Alternative licenses differ between font, SVG and code portions.
Best for
- GIS toolbars
- Web mapping and spatial-analysis applications
