What it does
Lexos combines text scrubbing, segmentation, statistical analysis and visualization in a browser interface.
Set the text-preparation rules in Lexos before comparing documents: punctuation, stop words, markup and character variants can all affect the later counts. Choose segmentation or word/character n-grams, then inspect statistics, similarity or clustering and available visualizations. Some tools export PNG or SVG figures. Lexos targets small to medium corpora, including non-Roman and historical-language work. Its browser interface uses a Python/Flask environment, available through hosting or self-hosting, and supports Chrome and Firefox; other browsers are unsupported. The hosted 4.0 release and ongoing repository development should be distinguished when checking available features.
Strengths
- Preprocessing and analysis in the same workflow
- Exportable statistics and visualizations
Watch out for
- Only Chrome and Firefox are documented as supported
Best for
- Exploring literary or historical text collections
