What it does

rav1e encodes AV1 video with multiple speed settings, bit depths and constant-quantizer or target-bitrate modes.

rav1e encodes Y4M input to AV1, with constant-quantizer or target-bitrate modes and speed settings from 0 to 10. The documented command writes an IVF output file; monochrome input is not supported.

Building requires a current supported Rust toolchain, with NASM used for x86 assembly optimisation. A binary built for extra CPU extensions will not run on a processor lacking them. The repository labels optional experimental APIs as unstable and discourages enabling every feature, so use the documented release/build path before depending on an experimental option.

Strengths

  • Several speed and rate-control modes support different encoding goals.
