What it does

Garden SVG Icons packages Zendesk’s interface artwork as individual SVG files and an external spritemap. Current v9 source artwork uses a flat 20 px set.

An upgrade from Garden v8 deserves a visual review as well as renamed imports. Version 9 replaces the old 12 px and 16 px folders, changes sprite IDs and merges some outline/filled pairs. A selected control that previously switched between those two drawings may lose its visible state difference.

The supplied migration tool can rewrite many imports, but it does not set display sizes or update CSS and MDX references. Review its unresolved items, explicitly size the replacement artwork, and check the selected state in context.

For a new support dashboard, choose individual SVG imports when the build has an SVG transformer, or host the spritemap and reference symbols from it. Text color cascades through currentColor. Vite does not turn these SVG files into React components without additional configuration.

The public @zendeskgarden/svg-icons package is free under Apache 2.0. Installation is local and does not require a Zendesk service account; preserve the applicable licence and notices when distributing it.

Strengths

  • Individual SVGs and a reusable spritemap offer two integration paths.
  • Migration documentation identifies removed names and merged state pairs.

Watch out for

  • The v9 migration can alter icon size and selected-state appearance.
  • The codemod leaves CSS, MDX and some dynamic references for manual work.

Best for

  • Zendesk Garden interfaces
  • Teams upgrading an existing Garden icon installation
