What it does
Gotenberg is a Docker-based PDF conversion API using Chromium, LibreOffice, and PDF processing engines. It converts webpages and office files and provides post-processing operations.
Run the container as an internal conversion service, send a URL/HTML or office-file request and save the PDF response. For dynamic pages, choose a readiness wait instead of rendering before the content appears; office files use the LibreOffice route and its own page/output controls. Select the image carefully: Chromium-only omits Office conversion, while LibreOffice-only omits webpage rendering. The guide recommends private deployment. Hosting, request orchestration and resource sizing belong to the integrating application.
Strengths
- Provides webpage rendering controls and office conversion in one API service.
Watch out for
- Requires a maintained container service and an application that calls its API.
