What it does
Vanadium is GrapheneOS's Chromium-based browser and WebView project, with additional isolation and attack-surface restrictions.
Vanadium is GrapheneOS's browser and WebView provider. Its feature guide describes strict site isolation, content filtering with per-site controls, and JavaScript JIT disabled in the browser by default. The site-permission dropdown can enable JIT when a site needs it. Apps embedding the WebView receive a subset of browser controls; the guide separately describes global and per-app WebView JIT settings.
The project warns that most browser data is excluded from OS backups. It does not plan extension support or a separate sync system beyond future operating-system backup capabilities. Keep those limits in mind before treating a device backup as a complete copy of the browser's data.
Strengths
- Documented strict site and origin isolation
- Per-site JIT control
Watch out for
- Most browser data is excluded from OS backups
Best for
- GrapheneOS users evaluating the system browser's hardening
