What it does
Graphic is a vector illustration application for Mac, iPad and iPhone. It combines editable paths and appearance styles with grid, scale and dimension tools for measured drawings. SVG, PDF and layered PSD exchange support further work in other design applications; the Mac edition is an upfront purchase.
Set the document up for its destination
On Mac, File > New sets canvas size, measurement units and RGB or CMYK colour. Presets include standard paper sizes, while custom canvas styles can resemble graph paper or a blueprint. The documented maximum is 16,000 by 16,000 pixels.
Build the diagram from paths and reusable shapes. Multiple fills, strokes and effects can be stacked on an object, saved as a style and applied elsewhere. Dimension labels can show calculated lengths and areas.
Export the artwork or the whole canvas
File > Export offers Entire Canvas, All Objects and Selected Objects. Entire Canvas includes the background and grid. All Objects can produce a transparent image, but transparent PNG or TIFF requires RGB mode. JPEG fills transparent regions with white.
Choose SVG or PDF for vector exchange, or PSD for a layered Photoshop handoff. Mac and mobile versions belong to one product family, with separate platform editions.
Strengths
- Appearance stacks can be saved and reused
- Dimension labels derive measurements from objects
- Export scope separates artwork from its canvas background
Watch out for
- Transparent PNG and TIFF export requires RGB mode
- Canvas dimensions are limited to 16,000 pixels per side
Best for
- Measured diagrams on Apple devices
- Illustration sets using consistent shapes and styles
