What it does
GRR Rapid Response is an open-source endpoint-agent and digital-forensics platform for searching, collecting and reviewing evidence across devices.
GRR's hunts let a responder ask the same forensic question across many enrolled endpoints. Its official page describes file searches, process and connection listings, and collecting predefined forensic artifacts. Define the evidence question and authorized device set before scheduling a hunt. A narrow artifact collection is easier to review than copying everything. The page also describes approvals for larger teams, which is useful when deciding who may request sensitive collections and who authorizes them.
A scheduled hunt can reach devices that were offline once they reconnect. Account for that delay when setting the authorized collection window: scheduling a query does not mean every endpoint ran it at the same time. The operator must define access and retention for the files and memory collected.
Strengths
- Fleet-wide artifact hunts
- Documented approval options for collection workflows
Best for
