What it does

GXS Bank provides Singapore digital banking through its app and connections with Grab and Singtel. Its savings account separates everyday money from Saving Pockets and fixed-term Boost Pockets. Saving Pockets have no minimum balance or account fee and can be moved back to the Main Account for spending.

A Pocket’s name does not tell you when its money can be spent. GXS uses three parts within one savings account:

Part What it does Access to money
Main Account Receives incoming transfers and handles payments Everyday transactions
Saving Pocket Separates money for a goal Move money back to Main Account when needed
Boost Pocket Holds a set amount for a chosen term Early closure is for the whole Pocket and forfeits bonus interest

You can create up to eight Saving Pockets and eight Boost Pockets. Ordinary Saving Pockets accrue interest daily, have no fees or minimum balance, and allow transfers back to the Main Account at any time. Funds must return there before an external payment.

Boost Pockets cannot be topped up after creation. At maturity, principal and interest return to the Main Account unless renewal has been arranged. They are therefore more suited to money with a known future use than money needed for this week’s purchases.

Registration and payment limits

The account is held in one person’s name. Its terms specify a minimum age of 16, subject to other acceptance criteria, and permission to retrieve information through Myinfo for the application. The service is available through GXS and its Grab and Singtel connections.

PayNow and bank transfers handle digital movement of money. The savings account does not support physical cash deposits or withdrawals, cheque facilities, or GIRO bill debits. That matters if cash income or automated bill collection is a regular part of your banking.

Strengths

  • Saving Pockets separate goals without a minimum balance or account fee.
  • Main Account and Pocket rules make spending money distinct from fixed-term saving.

Watch out for

  • Boost Pockets cannot be topped up and early closure loses their bonus interest.
  • The savings account does not support cash, cheques or GIRO bill debits.

Best for

  • Singapore app users separating everyday money from savings goals
  • Grab or Singtel users who can manage account payments digitally
