What it does
BadWolf is a minimalist privacy-oriented WebKitGTK browser with isolated ephemeral sessions and JavaScript disabled by default.
BadWolf makes a strong default choice: JavaScript starts disabled, and unrelated new tabs receive separate ephemeral sessions. That can suit a reader who wants a site to receive only the capabilities deliberately enabled for it. It also means some interactive pages will need adjustment or a different browsing workflow.
The project targets systems with a current WebKitGTK and lists Linux and BSD platforms. Windows and macOS are explicitly unsupported. Its release policy distinguishes six months of general bug fixes from two years of security fixes for release branches, which is useful when selecting a package.
Strengths
- Ephemeral isolated sessions
- JavaScript disabled by default
Watch out for
- Windows and macOS are unsupported
- Script-heavy pages may need enabled capabilities
Best for
