What it does
HBO Max offers series and films through paid plans. Its US plan comparison separates advertising, download allowances, video quality and the number of simultaneous streams.
Compare the actual plan features before subscribing for a large screen or a shared household. The US comparison reserves 4K, where available, for Premium and gives it a different stream limit. Live sports can carry blackouts, and even plans described as having no ads retain exceptions for some live or linear programming.
HBO Max's travel guide allows streaming in supported countries, with the film and series selection changing to the viewer's physical location. Previously downloaded programmes can still be watched when visiting an unsupported country, where live streaming is unavailable.
Strengths
- The plan table makes download and concurrent-stream differences visible.
Watch out for
- Sports blackouts and exceptions to ad-free viewing apply.
- 4K is available only on the listed eligible plan and content.
- Travel streaming is limited to supported countries and uses the local catalogue.
