What it does

HDFC Bank’s app supports everyday Indian banking, recent-transfer searches and downloadable card statements. Separate settings control online, contactless, ATM and international card use. Its BSBDA Small Savings Account provides a zero-balance route for qualifying new customers.

Card blocking and transaction settings have separate roles in the HDFC Bank app. Customers can enable or disable a debit card, block a lost card, adjust limits and change online, contactless, ATM or international usage. A spending review can reach back through up to three years of downloadable card statements.

Universal Search accepts an account, name, number or UPI ID, and a recent-transfer list provides a way to find earlier recipients. One-Time Transfer allows up to ₹10,000 per day without adding a payee. On newly registered or re-registered iOS devices, transfers to newly added beneficiaries have a combined ₹50,000 limit during the first 72 hours.

A zero-balance account option

HDFC’s BSBDA Small Savings Account has no balance-maintenance requirement. NetBanking, MobileBanking, digital statements and inward NEFT, RTGS and IMPS transfers are free. The account includes four free withdrawals per month; the bank’s definition covers more than ATM cash, including specified transfers, clearing and standing-instruction transactions. Further withdrawals and selected additional services have charges.

This Small Account route is for Indian residents without another Small Savings Account and without an existing HDFC banking relationship. The published process starts at a branch: complete the form, provide the required identity and address documents, and wait for approval and account details. Accepted documents include a passport, Aadhaar, voter ID or driving licence.

The app’s card and history features serve existing HDFC customers across products. The Small Account’s allowances are specific to that account and should not be treated as the tariff for every HDFC savings or salary account.

Strengths

  • Card controls distinguish blocking from limits and transaction-channel settings.
  • Card statements can be downloaded for up to three years.
  • Transfer search accepts several identifiers, including a UPI ID.

Watch out for

  • New or re-registered iOS devices have a temporary limit for newly added beneficiaries.
  • The Small Account includes only four free monthly withdrawals under its broad transaction definition.

Best for

  • HDFC customers reviewing card use and earlier transfers
  • Eligible new customers seeking a basic account without balance-maintenance requirements
