What it does

Zai provides payment collection, payouts and reconciliation for platforms and online businesses. Its Australian virtual accounts give customers dedicated bank details so incoming payments can be matched automatically. Card processing has transaction-based pricing, and business onboarding includes approval of the payment flow you plan to run.

For a platform collecting money from many customers, Zai can assign each user a dedicated bank routing number (BSB) and account number linked to their digital wallet. Incoming Australian bank payments can then be matched to that user. Unmatched payments through the New Payments Platform are returned immediately.

Setting up virtual accounts

Ask Zai to enable this feature for your platform first. Your developer then creates or updates the user, obtains their wallet ID, configures automatic status notifications and creates the virtual account. A second notification subscription reports incoming funds. This route requires Zai's API, its software connection, with account authentication and webhooks for those notifications.

Use Pre-live in the dashboard to test the payment flow with virtual money. Its data and configuration do not transfer to Live, so production settings must be configured separately.

Australian card pricing and approval

Standard pricing is 1.5% + A$0.30 for domestic cards and 2.8% + A$0.16 for international cards, excluding GST. Larger payment volumes, high-value transactions and specialised business models can use a customised package.

Business onboarding asks for legal and registration details, addresses, a bank account and director information. Zai approves a specific business model and payment flow during onboarding. That matters if your platform will collect on behalf of other sellers rather than simply take payment for its own sales.
