What it does
Adobe DNG Converter turns camera-specific RAW files into DNG and offers backward-compatibility workflows for older Adobe applications.
The main decision in DNG Converter is which application must read the result. Select the source folder, destination and naming pattern, then choose a Camera Raw compatibility level before conversion. An older compatibility target is useful when the camera is newer than the copy of Photoshop or Lightroom you still use. Adobe also distinguishes mosaic data from the Linear option: demosaicing is a one-way change, so it cannot later be turned back into the original mosaic data. Some manufacturer-specific metadata may be omitted during conversion; Adobe offers embedding the original RAW in the DNG when you need to keep that information. It is a free Windows and macOS utility, with supported cameras and system requirements to check before downloading.
