What it does

Geomagic is Hexagon's software family for reconstructing CAD from scans, inspecting captured data and designing organic shapes. Its applications serve different jobs and use separate product licences. The current product pages direct buyers to sales for access and pricing.

The family page separates the applications by the result they produce.

Product Main purpose
Design X Rebuild scan data as editable CAD
Control X Inspect scan and probe data
Freeform Design complex or organic forms
Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS Work from point clouds to CAD inside SOLIDWORKS
Wrap Prepare usable models from complex organic scans

Hexagon's September 2024 description of Design X Go identifies the tools behind scan reconstruction. Reference Geometry aligns imported data. Mesh repair includes hole filling and normal correction; Mesh Sketch takes cross-sections and supports sketch dimensions and constraints. Extrude, Revolve, Sweep and Loft build solids or surfaces, while Accuracy Analysis compares the design with the scan. Live Transfer moves the project into another CAD application for continued design. Those details belong to the described Go offering.

The current Design X page confirms its focus on feature-based, editable models. Control X instead processes scan or probe data into inspection results. Buying a product from this family does not imply that the other applications or every edition's tools are included.

The May 2026 licence agreement makes the product, device/user allowance, term and usage type depend on the licence key. Node Lock means one device, while network options have their own scope. Purchased licences default to commercial use; trial licences are non-commercial and may restrict functions. Updates require an eligible maintenance agreement, subscription or separate payment. Certain licence types, including Node Lock, require an internet connection.

Strengths

  • The family distinguishes editable CAD reconstruction from inspection and organic modelling.
  • The documented Design X Go tools include cross-sections, modelling and deviation comparison.
  • A dedicated SOLIDWORKS route keeps scan-to-CAD work inside that host.

Watch out for

  • The separate applications and licence keys do not form one universally included bundle.
  • Node Lock use is limited to one device and requires an internet connection.
  • Trial licences exclude commercial use and can restrict functionality.

Best for

  • Engineering teams selecting scan-to-CAD or inspection software
  • Designers working with complex organic scan data and forms
