What it does
FontCreator is a Windows and macOS font editor for TrueType, OpenType, color and variable fonts. It offers outline editing, format interchange and edition-specific production and proofing tools.
FontCreator can start with drawn outlines, imported vector artwork or a scanned image. Its visual OpenType Designer handles substitutions and positioning, while export supports desktop fonts and WOFF or WOFF2 webfonts. Glyphs, UFO and designspace interchange lets a type project move between editors without reducing it to a finished font file.
Essentials covers ordinary font editing and single-axis variable fonts. Professional adds multi-axis work, automatic kerning, optical spacing, validation and interactive OpenType proofing. The free 30-day trial includes Professional features, so a workflow tried there may depend on that edition.
One licence covers the native Windows and Mac versions. You keep the version you buy and receive updates within that major version. Future major upgrades are separate, apart from the stated six-month upgrade guarantee after purchase.
