What it does

Hiveage is online invoicing software for freelancers and small teams. It combines estimates, time, expenses, mileage and recurring client billing, with online and offline payment records. A free account allows five clients and unlimited invoices, while paid plans expand client capacity, team access and customization.

An agency can put the work and its costs on the same Hiveage invoice. From Invoices > New Invoice, choose the client and due date, then use New Line to add items, time, expenses or mileage. Invoice Settings controls payment methods, recipients and partial payments. Review the bill and choose More > Send Invoice.

Before the first bill, complete the business profile, default currency and tax settings. Saved Categories lets you keep frequently billed services or products ready for selection. For example, an invoice can include a design task and travel to the client's office without combining them into an unexplained single charge.

Monthly plans have these client allowances:

Plan Monthly billing Clients
Free $0 5
Basic $19 50
Pro $29 250
Plus $49 1,000

Pro adds five team members, a custom domain, outgoing email customization and automatic reminders. Plus raises the team allowance to ten and adds API access and migration help. Annual billing offers lower monthly equivalents. A 14-day Pro trial requires no card, and the free plan remains an option afterward.

For repeat work, open Invoices > Recurring > New Recurring Invoice. You can create a draft for review, email the bill automatically, or charge a saved card through a supported gateway. Choose a preset frequency or a custom number of days. A profile ID supplies a separate invoice-number prefix, useful when a retainer should have its own sequence.

Automatic charging is documented for Authorize.Net, Stripe and Braintree. A failed charge pauses the profile and emails the client and account owner. Once the client updates the card, More > Resume retries the missed payment before continuing the schedule. Customers can also cancel the automatic charge arrangement from their invoices.

Other supported gateways include PayPal and Square. Cash or cheque payments can be recorded alongside online receipts; gateway charges and merchant eligibility depend on the provider.

Strengths

  • One invoice can combine items, time, expenses and mileage
  • Recurring profiles can draft, email or automatically charge
  • Failed automatic charges pause the profile and notify both parties

Watch out for

  • The free account allows only five clients
  • API access is reserved for Plus
  • Automatic card charging is limited to supported gateways

Best for

  • Small agencies billing recurring retainers and reimbursable costs
  • Freelancers who need both online and offline payment records
