What it does

Hodl Hodl provides Bitcoin buy and sell offers filtered by currency, payment method and amount. An escrow contract holds the Bitcoin while the buyer pays the seller separately. You need a registered account and your own Bitcoin wallet. Access excludes US users and several other jurisdictions.

The contract has two payment steps

Hodl Hodl separates Bitcoin escrow funding from the agreed fiat payment. After an offer is accepted, the seller deposits Bitcoin into the contract. The buyer then pays by the chosen method, and the seller releases the Bitcoin after confirming receipt. Hodl Hodl says its escrow uses three keys and requires two signatures, so the company cannot release the funds alone.

Register with an email address, nickname and password, then verify the email. Participants must be adults with legal capacity and act on their own behalf. The terms exclude the US, Russia, Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia and UN-embargoed jurisdictions. Citizenship, residence, tax residence and current location can matter. The terms also reserve the right to require identity checks.

Offer settings and costs

Choose Create your offer to set a fixed price or an exchange-rate markup and payment terms. First-trade limit caps new counterparties' amounts; Enabled makes the offer public.

Each participant normally pays 0.75%, or 0.5% with an eligible referral. Before funding, the contract shows the seller's deposit, buyer's net receipt and network estimate. Charges apply only when completed.

Use a distinct payment password for escrow and keep control of your Bitcoin wallet. Address changes apply only to new contracts.

The testnet site offers a way to learn the contract stages with test coins. A completed live contract cannot be reversed, and Bitcoin's value may change while payment is being arranged.

Strengths

  • Offer controls include a fixed price, exchange-rate markup and first-trade cap
  • A testnet version supports learning the contract stages

Watch out for

  • You must supply and manage a separate Bitcoin wallet and payment password
  • Eligibility restrictions cover both location and personal ties to excluded jurisdictions

Best for

  • Eligible Bitcoin traders who want to choose fiat payment terms
  • People comparing existing offers by currency and payment method
