What it does
Huawei Cloud Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) provides configurable virtual machines for websites, databases, development, and other application workloads. Teams select a CPU and memory flavor, operating system, disks, network settings, and billing mode, then connect to the resulting Linux or Windows server. ECS supports automatic scaling policies, disk snapshots and backups, and several EVS disk types. The service offers more direct infrastructure control than a managed application host, so operating-system configuration and application maintenance remain the user's responsibility.
Select the server's size and billing mode
Huawei's getting-started guide divides setup into three tasks: create a Huawei Cloud account, purchase an ECS with a suitable billing mode and configuration, and connect to it. If you attach data disks at creation, initialize and format them before using them. The ECS console and documentation also cover Linux and Windows access, website setup, and migration from other physical or virtual servers.
ECS is a general-purpose VM rather than a fully managed application platform. You choose the operating system and instance flavor, then install and maintain the software stack yourself. That makes it useful when a project needs familiar server access or a specific operating environment. The product page lists auto-scaling policies and disk features, including encryption, backup, and snapshots.
Billing can be yearly or monthly, pay-per-use, or spot. Pay-per-use is intended for short-term or variable workloads; spot capacity can be reclaimed if supply is insufficient or the market price exceeds your maximum. Compute, images, EVS disks, and EIP bandwidth can all contribute to the bill. The pricing page does not provide one universal server price because configuration and region determine the charge. No ECS was provisioned for this listing.
Strengths
- Supports several billing modes, including pay-per-use and spot instances, alongside yearly or monthly subscriptions.
- Provides flexible instance configurations and a range of EVS disk types, snapshots, and backup options.
- The official guide covers connecting to Linux and Windows ECS instances and initializing added data disks.
Watch out for
- Spot instances may be reclaimed when capacity is insufficient or the market price exceeds the user's maximum.
- The operator remains responsible for configuring the guest operating system and application stack; disks, images, and bandwidth can add separate charges.
Best for
- Hosting software that needs a configurable Linux or Windows virtual machine.
- Migrating an existing physical server or VM to Huawei Cloud.
- Running test or bursty compute workloads where pay-per-use or reclaimable spot capacity fits.
