What it does
Huebee is an MIT-licensed picker that presents a grid of swatches for one-click colour selection. Developers can tune its hue, shade and saturation counts or replace the grid with a fixed custom palette.
Attach Huebee to an input, button or other element. Clicking or focusing that element opens the grid. Inputs can retain text entry for an exact value, while the notation setting controls whether the selected colour is written as short HEX, full HEX or HSL.
For a controlled annotation palette, supply customColors and set shades to zero. This hides the normal grid so only the supplied choices remain. The change event can update an SVG fill or stroke, and the picker can also update an anchor’s text and background.
Huebee is released under the MIT licence. It suits a visible set of choices; a continuous wheel is outside this grid-based interface.
Strengths
- A custom-only grid can enforce the intended visible choices.
- The selected notation can match the receiving field.
Watch out for
- The visual interface offers swatches rather than continuous colour adjustment.
Best for
- Choosing label, badge or annotation colours from a controlled set
