What it does

Huntington combines everyday US banking with online statements, alerts and recurring transfers. Caregiver Banking shares selected account access while the owner retains control of permissions. Asterisk-Free Checking has no minimum balance requirement or monthly maintenance fee.

Asterisk-Free Checking does not require an opening deposit or a balance to avoid monthly maintenance fees. Huntington-owned ATMs are free; an outside ATM transaction costs US$3.50 plus any operator fee. The account does not earn interest.

Applicants need a US residential address, government-issued photo ID and an SSN or ITIN. Adults can apply online or at a branch. Under-18s use the branch route with an adult co-owner. The Asterisk-Free account guide asks for two identity documents.

Arranging help with an account

Open My Circle → Caregiver Banking, enter the trusted person’s contact details, select shared accounts and submit the invitation. The invite expires after 24 hours. The caregiver verifies their identity and uses their own login.

The owner can permit bills to established payees and internal transfers between shared Huntington accounts. Optional Spending Settings adds debit-card limits and category blocks, with selected merchant exceptions. It costs US$5 monthly unless the owner has an eligible fee-waiver account, such as Perks Checking. Only selected checking accounts support it.

Caregiver Banking does not create joint ownership. The owner can suspend or remove access, and caregivers cannot expand their own permissions. Spending Settings also does not let the caregiver make purchases with the owner’s card.

Ordinary online banking supports one-time and repeating transfers and downloadable statements, so a household can combine regular banking with a defined level of help from another person.

Strengths

  • Owners choose which accounts to share and can revoke caregiver access.
  • Asterisk-Free Checking needs no opening deposit or minimum balance.
  • Recurring transfers and statements are available through online banking.

Watch out for

  • Spending Settings does not send notifications when it blocks a transaction.
  • Caregiver card controls are restricted to selected checking accounts.

Best for

  • Huntington customers arranging limited help with account administration
  • US residents seeking checking without a monthly maintenance fee
