What it does

IcoMoon combines an SVG editor with tools for organizing icons and exporting fonts, sprites and framework formats. Its newer web app supports multicolor fonts and paid live collaboration, while the older app remains separately available.

IcoMoon lets you assemble just the icons a project needs. In the new app, drag SVG files into the empty project or use the Import panel. Double-click an imported icon to edit it, then choose output formats in Export. Library icons need to be added to the project before editing.

Unzip the downloaded package before opening its demo.html examples. Keep the included .icomoon.json file: it can restore your glyphs later. Free projects live in the current browser, so that downloaded copy matters if browser data is cleared.

What the plans change

The free app works without an account. Basic adds account storage, WOFF2 output and collaboration. Unlimited adds production CDN hosting; those CDN links require an active plan. Free generated links last 24 hours, and Basic links last 30 days. Downloaded files can be hosted yourself. Exclusive icon packs are separate one-time purchases, even with a paid app plan.

Each library pack has its own licence link. Using your own vectors creates no extra IcoMoon licence requirement. The new app can make COLRv0 color fonts, but does not import bitmap glyphs or COLRv1 gradient fonts.

Strengths

  • Exports several formats from the same selected icon pack.
  • Can process imported SVGs and generate fonts locally in the browser.

Watch out for

  • Free projects have browser-local storage rather than account backup.
  • WOFF2 export and live collaboration require a paid plan.

Best for

  • Building a custom icon font from original SVGs.
  • Maintaining one set of icons for multiple export formats.
