What it does

iCompta manages personal accounts, budgets and shared expenses on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Transactions can be entered manually or imported from financial files. The full Mac and iOS apps are separate purchases; automatic bank downloads add a subscription and currently cover France and Italy.

On the Mac, start a local file with File > New document, then add your accounts. Choose Document > New budget to give the plan a name, currency and set of accounts. Each budget item has a category, expected amount, start date and repeat duration; an optional end date stops it recurring.

Other categories catches spending that has not been assigned to another budget line. In the progress-bar view, double-click a line to inspect its transactions. When changing an allowance, choose whether the revision affects all periods or only future ones. The pencil beside an amount changes one period without rewriting the rest.

The US App Store prices are US$24.99 for Mac and US$3.99 for iPhone/iPad. A 30-day Mac trial is available from the website. There is also a free iCompta 6 Lite iOS download.

Automatic imports are optional. Without that subscription, download statements through your bank's website and import QIF, OFX, CSV, XML or JSON. For multiple devices, choose iCloud, Dropbox or local-network synchronization.

Strengths

  • Batch editing and rules can apply the same correction across many transactions
  • Existing income and expense history can prefill a new budget from average amounts

Best for

  • Apple households combining account budgets and shared expenses
