What it does
Identifont identifies fonts through questions about visible letter features and searches by name, similarity, picture or designer. Public searches work without an account; its terms restrict the standard service to personal, noncommercial use.
When a reference image is too small for reliable automated recognition, answer questions about the letterforms instead. Identifont begins by asking whether the characters have serifs. Use Filter to limit questions to letters present in your sample, or enter its year to exclude newer designs. Earlier answers can be changed through the Questions answered list.
If you already know part of a name, use Fonts by Name. A result can identify the designer and publisher, show related typefaces and link to a font retailer. It is a lead for further evaluation, not a licence to use the font software. Similarity and picture searches offer other starting points.
The published terms limit the service to personal, noncommercial use and require a separate agreement for commercial use. They also prohibit automated collection and republishing search results. The site can work without cookies or JavaScript, although its Fontset feature needs cookies.
