What it does
ifconfig.me shows the connecting public address and request metadata, with documented plain-text and JSON endpoints.
Use the address-only endpoint for a simple public-IP check, a named endpoint for one request field, or all.json for structured metadata. ifconfig.me’s examples also show the user agent, encoding and forwarded-header values received with the request. Keep the requesting client and network path consistent when comparing results, especially if one client uses a proxy or VPN. X-Forwarded-For describes supplied request-chain metadata; it is not a traceroute of routers or a reliable list of every hop. The linked IPinfo offering is a separate richer service rather than a guarantee that all of its fields are included here.
