What it does
ImageJ is open-source scientific image-processing software with analysis, registration, segmentation, tracking, visualization and extensibility through plug-ins.
Keep a data-preserving output alongside any display copy. ImageJ's File → Save uses TIFF, while Save As offers other formats and measurement/selection outputs. The ImageJ 1 guide says TIFF retains its 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit float and RGB types plus spatial/density calibration. To save only a selected region, duplicate it first; an active selection alone does not crop the saved image. Fiji bundles ImageJ plug-ins and manages dependencies/updates. Keep commands, settings and plug-in versions with reusable measurements.
