What it does
NSW’s Environment and Heritage Image Library provides imagery organised around threatened animals, plants, fungi, populations and heritage. Its licence separates watermarked layout previews from final images.
Search by keyword, collection or tag, or start with one of the threatened-species or Heritage collections. Select View details or double-click an image thumbnail, then open Brief details for its individual usage conditions. These conditions take priority when they differ from the library’s general agreement.
A watermarked image is for testing a layout and cannot appear in published material. Use the final-image ordering option for a publishable file, accepting the agreement when you submit the order. Any licence fee is set by the image’s individual conditions.
Unless those conditions permit it, the standard licence does not allow commercial use or transfer to another organisation. Material alterations need prior written approval. Where a credit is specified, place it close to the image. An image marked for DCCEEW products only also needs written departmental endorsement before publication.
Strengths
- Separate animal, plant, fungi and heritage collections support a focused search.
- Brief details puts the selected image’s conditions alongside its record.
Watch out for
- Watermarked previews are restricted to layout tests.
- Commercial use, redistribution and substantial alteration can need additional permission.
Best for
- Editors and conservation communicators sourcing NSW environmental images
