What it does
Moneydance is personal finance software for Mac, Windows and Linux. It combines account registers, budgets, scheduled reminders, investment records and reports, with free mobile companions. A one-time household licence is available, while Moneydance+ bank downloads are an optional subscription.
Moneydance's summary shows balances and upcoming or overdue reminders. Open an account from that view to enter transactions or reconcile it against a statement. Open a reminder to record the scheduled transaction.
For a new file, use Account > New Account to add a bank, credit-card, investment, asset, liability or loan account. Tools > Categories opens the income and expense structure. The Standard Account Set supplies default categories; the Minimal Account Set starts without them.
For a spending review, choose a report's date range and chart type, then inspect the underlying values. The desktop trial permits 100 manually entered transactions; imported and downloaded entries are unlimited, and purchasing a licence keeps the existing data.
Choose how transactions arrive
OFX Direct Connect downloads are available where the bank supports that specific connection. Otherwise, import an OFX, QFX or QIF statement from the bank's website. CSV is also supported, but needs more import setup. Moneydance+ provides an optional Plaid connection for US and Canadian banks.
Licence and subscription choices
| Access route | Payment structure | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Moneydance licence | One-time purchase | Current version and the next major upgrade |
| Moneydance+ add-on | Monthly or annual subscription | Bank downloads for an owner of Moneydance 2022 or later |
| Combined package | Monthly or annual subscription | Moneydance, future updates and Moneydance+ |
Approximate US prices are $4 monthly or $40 yearly for the add-on, and $9 monthly or $90 yearly for the combined package. Currency-specific charges are shown when subscribing.
Cancelling the add-on leaves a purchased desktop licence usable. Cancelling the combined subscription returns the software to trial mode, so a separate licence is then needed for unrestricted manual entries.

Best for
