What it does
Infomaniak Public Cloud is an infrastructure-as-a-service environment built around OpenStack. Teams can provision Linux, Windows, or custom-image instances, add block or object storage, and configure networking components such as floating IPs and load balancers. Its wider catalog also lists separately managed Kubernetes and database services, but the core Public Cloud workflow is to assemble and operate cloud resources for an application. The vendor says the infrastructure and staff are based in Switzerland, which is relevant when location and data handling are part of a hosting decision.
Start with a project and its access credentials, then choose an instance image and flavor that fit the workload. The instance guide walks through GNU/Linux and Windows instances, image and key-pair selection, lifecycle operations, and resizing. It also warns that resizing shuts down and reboots the instance, so plan for interruption rather than treating it as a live scale-up.
A practical first project might place a web service on one VM, attach a separate volume for persistent files, and restrict inbound traffic with the network controls described in the Public Cloud documentation. The pricing page describes usage-based billing at the end of each month, with no minimum amount and no cancellation fee. It lists resource-level rates and explains that object-storage egress has a threshold above which it is charged. Put limits around resources and estimate compute, storage, snapshots, and network use together; the provider's short-term introductory credits are not the same as a permanent free tier.
This is closer to operating an OpenStack cloud than deploying a finished web app. You remain responsible for guest operating systems, application configuration, access control, and workload recovery. The pricing details are metered and exclude VAT. No cloud project was created and no instance or API call was made for this record.
Strengths
- Offers instances, block storage, object storage, networking, GPU options, and managed services within one OpenStack-based cloud catalog.
- Uses usage-based billing with monthly resource charging and no minimum spend.
- Provides OpenStack instance and credential guidance alongside Terraform orchestration documentation.
Watch out for
- The core IaaS workflow requires users to configure and maintain the guest system and application rather than receiving an application deployment service.
- A workload's total charge depends on its resource mix; object-storage egress is not universally free, and published prices exclude VAT.
Best for
- Teams that need self-managed virtual machines and OpenStack-compatible infrastructure in Switzerland.
- Teams automating OpenStack resources with Terraform.
