What it does

OpenConnect is a cross-platform SSL VPN client supporting protocols used by Cisco, Juniper, Pulse, Palo Alto Networks, F5, Fortinet and other gateways.

OpenConnect is useful when the VPN endpoint already exists but the supplied client does not suit your system. Its protocol list covers several major gateway families, with a consistent client interface and protocol-specific notes. Start by matching the gateway protocol rather than choosing a server country.

The project is independent of the vendors whose protocols it supports. It also points to ocserv, a separate server implementation. You need valid access and configuration for the gateway you intend to use; OpenConnect itself does not issue corporate network credentials.

Strengths

  • Several gateway protocols in one client
  • Protocol-specific documentation

Best for

  • Users connecting to an organization-provided SSL VPN gateway
