What it does
InstaLOD combines mesh reduction, remeshing, CAD preparation and UV tools. Studio provides a desktop interface for Windows, Mac and Linux; Pipeline, Grid and Polyverse serve other processing setups. A free Pioneer licence has eligibility and attribution conditions, alongside paid subscriptions and enterprise agreements.
The product family separates interactive preparation from other deployment routes. Studio combines a material-aware viewport with processing tools. Pipeline runs from the command line, Grid is an on-premise processing cluster, and the Polyverse integration provides browser access and an API. The licence for each route determines which deployment and automation uses are available.
The vendor's legacy SDK 2 command documentation gives a concrete profile-based procedure. Load a JSON operation profile before queuing its input files or folder. Set input and output paths, choose a reduction target or remeshing profile, then run the operation. Folder output names need variable components so successive assets do not overwrite the same file. The reduction example creates several levels of detail; the remeshing profile rebuilds geometry and generates a normal map. These commands describe that SDK generation.
Pioneer permits eligible commercial work with attribution whenever processed content is shared, published or delivered to a client. The linked agreement also applies eligibility checks to a freelance client's finances and limits simultaneous Pioneer licences. Asset-pack descriptions and screenshots have specific credit and watermark requirements.
The standard online-shop agreement permits selling or licensing processed data but restricts the software itself. It prohibits unattended, remote or automated processing and virtualization under that grant. Separately advertised enterprise automation therefore needs its applicable agreement. Device licensing also differs: the agreement says a node-locked machine cannot be deauthorized by the licensee, while semi-floating deauthorization can take up to 24 hours.
Strengths
- Studio combines geometry, CAD and UV preparation in a desktop application.
- The documented legacy profile system has explicit input, output and reduction controls.
- Separate deployment offerings cover interactive work and licensed enterprise processing.
Watch out for
- Pioneer attribution requirements extend to shared work and client deliveries.
- The standard online-shop grant prohibits unattended or remote processing.
- Users cannot deauthorize a node-locked machine; semi-floating deauthorization can take up to 24 hours.
Best for
- Teams preparing meshes and CAD for interactive visualization
- Technical artists configuring licensed geometry-processing pipelines
