What it does
Instant Eyedropper now offers Reborn for Windows and Linux alongside its Classic download. Reborn combines a magnifier, pixel movement, area sampling and a stash for successive colours. Its source is readable, but reuse follows a restrictive licence.
Activate the magnifier by hotkey or tray icon, then click a pixel to copy its value. Space adds a colour to the stash without closing the overlay. Arrow keys move by one pixel; Shift with an arrow jumps to the next distinct colour. Change the sampling area with Alt and the mouse wheel, then switch output templates with number keys.
Check the organisation licence
Individuals and organisations with fewer than 50 employees and under US$1 million annual gross revenue may use Reborn free, including professionally. Other organisations need a paid licence: US$99 once for one named user on two devices, or US$999 once for a site licence. These cover the purchased major version.
Private modifications are allowed, but public distribution of modified versions and incorporation into another software project require permission.
Strengths
- The stash collects colours without repeatedly reopening the picker
- Output text templates can be customised
Watch out for
- Larger organisations require a paid licence
- Modified versions cannot be distributed publicly without permission
Best for
- Repeated desktop colour sampling with keyboard controls
