What it does
IntaSend supplies mobile-money collection, payment links and payout infrastructure, with store plugins and software integrations. The main site identifies merchant support in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, while payment routes vary by country. An account must be fully verified before transacting, and live collections carry fees.
For Kenyan M-Pesa collection, an application sends the customer's phone number, amount and its own order reference. IntaSend creates an invoice record for each payment attempt. Track that record by its invoice ID, using the status service or automatic notifications when its state changes. A request can be pending, processing, partly paid, complete or failed; a failed request includes a reason and code.
Completed collection and spendable balance are also distinct. Money first marked CLEARING becomes AVAILABLE after settlement. Keep the provider's payment reference alongside the order reference when matching the receipt to the customer's purchase.
Payment links work differently: create a reusable address with a title and currency, either fix the amount or let the customer enter it, and choose a usage limit. The response includes the link and QR code. A link can be updated or disabled. This suits repeated contributions or orders agreed outside a shop checkout.
The published schedule lists 3% for M-Pesa collections and KES100 per M-Pesa disbursement. Non-residents need a custom disbursement rate, and enterprise pricing is quoted. Confirm the activated methods and country-specific terms when opening the account.
Verification covers both the account manager and the business. The Kenyan checklist includes identity, Kenya Revenue Authority tax documentation and a photo; registered businesses add the relevant registration and ownership records. Email and phone confirmation and a live screening step are part of the process. Prepare the documents for the entity being registered rather than treating an individual profile as approval for a company.
