What it does

Interrail provides European rail passes with Global and One Country options, supported by planning guides, railway maps and reservation information. The website uses country of residence to show the passes available to a traveller.

Set your country of residence before choosing a pass. The site asks for the country shown on an identity or residency document and explains that it affects pass availability. This is more useful than assuming the same offer applies to every visitor.

Next decide whether you want several countries or a deeper trip within one country. Suggested routes, such as an Italy city itinerary or a Nordic journey, can help turn that choice into a draft plan. Seat reservations have their own booking and help sections, so investigate them alongside the pass rather than leaving them until the route is fixed. The pass duration and number of travel days should follow the journey you want to make.

For a mobile pass, first check that the Rail Planner app supports your phone. Add the pass while online, connect a trip, then activate it with the passport or ID number you will carry and a start date. The pass and the ticket in My Pass must be activated before boarding; purchasing the pass alone does not complete those steps.

Eurail and Interrail now use one Interrail brand for travellers worldwide. The official FAQ says all customers receive an Interrail Pass from 9 September 2026, including residents outside Europe. Previously issued Eurail passes remain valid under their existing dates and conditions. Country of residence still matters when selecting the available pass and its travel rules.
