What it does
Graintouch is a drawing app inspired by layered printmaking. Its vector Bool Brush builds overlapping or knocked-out shapes, and a print simulation adds grain and offset effects. Each layer can be exported as a vector stencil. The app is sold for a one-time $9.99 USD.
Draw with a small ink palette
The 18 supplied inks encourage illustrations built from a few colour overlaps. Bool Brush marks can combine or cut away shapes, while the print simulation shows shifted layers and ink-like texture.
Layer stencils provide scalable shapes for colour separation. Version 1.1 also adds a background reference image, finer brush control and an image-fill mode. The iPhone and iPad app is designed around touch drawing; the store lists Apple Silicon compatibility but says macOS use is not verified.
Strengths
- Vector stencils can scale without raster enlargement
- Ink overlaps and knockout marks suit print-style artwork
Watch out for
- The supplied palette contains 18 selected inks
- The store does not verify macOS use
Best for
- Illustrators exploring layered ink effects
- Preparing separate colour shapes from a drawing
