What it does
IPNI provides nomenclatural information such as spelling, authorship, types and first publication of vascular-plant names.
Use IPNI to answer where and how a botanical name was published. The site explicitly directs taxonomic questions to Plants of the World Online, so these two references serve different tasks. Record the author and publication details when tracing a name; do not treat the presence of a name here as a complete taxonomic judgment.
