What it does
itch.io hosts independent games and other creator-made digital work. Creators set their own pages and minimum purchase amounts, including zero where they choose.
A good way into itch.io is to follow a game jam or a creator whose work interests you. Read the individual page before downloading: the marketplace contains paid and free projects, with different platforms and stages of development. A pay-what-you-want listing can still have a minimum price.
Keep the purchase email: itch.io allows purchases without an account, and that message links to the download page. Choose the file for your operating system. A Steam key is a separate inclusion, so verify it on the purchase or bundle page rather than assuming every download comes with one.
Strengths
