What it does
jamovi Desktop is a free statistical spreadsheet with point-and-click analyses powered by R. It reads common statistical and spreadsheet data files, updates results as inputs or options change and saves data, analysis settings and outputs in one shareable file.
jamovi Desktop is free for commercial as well as personal use, and its local application needs no account. Windows, macOS and Linux versions are available. Opening an SPSS, SAS or Stata file transfers the data, so analyses created in those programs need to be recreated.
For a survey analysis, open the data file and check each column's measurement type by double-clicking its header. Computed variables can combine responses: the guide's MEAN(Q1:Q5) example creates a wellbeing measure. Select an independent-samples t-test under Analyses, place that measure in the dependent-variable box and the group column in the grouping box. Tables update when the choices change. Save an .omv file to retain the data, analysis settings and results; output can also be annotated and copied.
No R programming is needed for the ordinary interface. Syntax mode displays equivalent R commands, and the optional Rj module supports custom R analysis. Additional modules are available through the library at the top right.
jamovi's October 2026 security advisory lists 2.7.41 and 28.14 as versions with an updated certificate list. It advises users on 2.7.31 or earlier, or 28.1 to 28.4, to update before installing or updating modules.
