What it does

LiquiGen uses GPU simulation to create liquids and turn them into renderable meshes. It supports animated collision geometry, liquid rendering and outputs for film and game tools. Export options include Alembic caches, image flipbooks, mesh flipbooks and vertex animation textures. Indie users buy a permanent licence, with optional maintenance after the included first year of updates.

Liquid meshing has controls for different problems. In the Meshing node, enable Higher quality meshing to reveal the more detailed settings. Smooth SDF helps calm surfaces settle; Curvature Flow removes noise from splashes while its Velocity Range can leave the fastest parts less affected. Snap to Colliders makes a liquid surface meet container walls, and Clipping can remove an unwanted enclosing shell.

For a mesh with a triangle budget, enable Simplification, turn on Use max triangles and set the count. Preserve droplets protects small features; Max iterations gives the simplifier more opportunities to reach its target. Raising Min neighbors to remove stray fragments can also remove particles that support a thin surface.

The Convention selector on Alembic/OBJ mesh export and Alembic particle export coordinates position units and, where supported, velocity data. Presets cover Blender, Maya/Redshift, Houdini, Cinema 4D, Unity and Unreal. FBX, mesh flipbooks and vertex animation textures use separate unit handling, so that selector does not govern them.

Indie permanent access includes the first 12 months of updates, followed by optional annual maintenance, excluding tax. Automatic renewal is enabled unless opted out. Eligibility includes affiliate and commercial-client conditions. A no-card trial lasts 30 days from first export.

Strengths

  • Animated FBX or Alembic objects can act as emitters and colliders.
  • Custom export conventions can set position and velocity scales independently.

Watch out for

  • Removing stray fragments with Min neighbors can open holes in thin liquid regions.
  • The Convention selector does not control all export formats.

Best for

  • Effects artists refining liquid surfaces and splash meshes
  • Game artists preparing animated liquid geometry or textures
