What it does

JASP is free cross-platform statistical software with a spreadsheet-style interface, drag-and-drop analytical setup and dynamically updated results. It provides classical and Bayesian methods alongside annotated tables and graphs for communicating a quantitative analysis.

JASP provides classical and Bayesian statistics in a free desktop application. Open your own data file, or choose File > Open > Data Library for examples with data and, in some cases, saved analyses.

Check the columns before analysing

Put column names in the first row. JASP guesses each variable's measurement type; change it using the column icon. Assigning Scale to text-containing columns turns nonnumeric entries into missing values.

Choose an analysis from the ribbon. Its results update as options change; click an existing output to reopen those options. Results support annotations, rearrangement and copying tables in APA style.

The desktop application runs without an internet connection. Current downloads cover Windows, Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, and Linux through Flatpak. A 64-bit system is required, with about 4 GB of disk space and at least 4 GB of memory.

Strengths

  • Provides classical and Bayesian statistical methods in a graphical interface.
  • Supports dynamic results and annotated output for communicating findings.

Watch out for

  • Changing a text-containing column to Scale turns its nonnumeric entries into missing values.
  • Current desktop releases require a 64-bit system and at least 4 GB of memory.

Best for

  • Researchers exploring supplied quantitative datasets and preparing reviewable statistical reports
