What it does
JMP is statistical-analysis software for preparing data, exploring linked graphs, fitting models and designing experiments. Analysts can import spreadsheets, text files and database data, then share visual results or script repeated work. Commercial access uses an annual licence and a My JMP account.
JMP links graphs, statistical output and the underlying rows. After opening a data table, choose Analyze > Distribution, select the variables, move them to Y, Columns and click OK. Each variable gets a histogram and associated reports. Clicking a histogram bar highlights the corresponding rows and values in other linked views.
For example, an analyst can examine a delivery-time distribution and select the unusually slow group to inspect the original orders. The By field creates separate reports for each group. Freq supplies occurrence counts when the table contains summarized data; Weight applies to continuous responses and is ignored for categorical ones.
JMP also supports modeling, experiments, quality analysis and what-if comparisons. Scripting can regenerate recurring analyses, while interactive dashboards and web visualizations share the results. Pro adds predictive modeling and machine-learning methods.
The store lists JMP at USD 1,390 per user per year and JMP Pro at USD 8,820 per user per year. Licences are country-specific and renew automatically. Cancelling prevents renewal and leaves access through the paid term, without a partial refund. A fully functional 30-day trial can be requested without a card. The free Student Edition is restricted to eligible students, educators and academic researchers at degree-granting institutions.
Download through My JMP. On first launch, sign in with the email authorized for the licence and verify the emailed code. If needed, create the My JMP ID during that process. The software checks the authorization before opening.
Strengths
